Wii versus obesity: Fight!

Actually, the study didn't use the Wii, but researchers recently compared the calorie-burning powers of seated versus active videogames. The VERY small study measured the calories burned by 18 children who played a seated bowling game, a game requiring a bowling motion, and a jumping game. Even seated gaming burned more calories than resting, with the bowling motion game burning 98% more calories than resting, and the jumping game burning 451% more. Only the jumping game increased heart rate. So active gaming is better than lying down and watching television, but the study did not compare gaming to other kinds of play or to exercise.
