Gender Differences in Breast Milk Protection

Girls benefit more than boys do from breastfeeding, at least in terms of protection from severe lung disease, according to a study published in the June 2008 issue of Pediatrics. Children with low birth weight, who were seen as being at high risk for respiratory illness, were examined. Breast milk protected girls but not boys from severe acute lung disease.
